Simple Install
The Simple Install option installs vCenter Single Sign-On, the vSphere Web Client, vCenter Inventory Service, and vCenter Server on the same host or virtual machine. Simple Install is appropriate for most deployments.

Running vCenter Server using a user account

You can use the Microsoft Windows built-in system account or a user account to run vCenter Server. With a user account, you can enable Windows authentication for SQL Server, and it provides more security.

The user account must be an administrator on the local machine. In the installation wizard, you specify the account name as DomainNameUsername. You must configure the SQL Server database to allow the domain account access to SQL Server.

Notes diverses

"AFAIK, You cannot manage ESXi hosts which are versions higher than your vCenter. Ex: You cannot add ESXi 5.5 Hosts to a vCenter 5.0 installation"

"we had to use the Dell image for our servers as the regular 5.5 image did not detect some hardware."

Install sequence: vCenter Server versions 5.1 and later require vCenter Single Sign-On and Inventory Service. You must install these components in this order: vCenter Single Sign-On, the vSphere Web Client, Inventory Service, and vCenter Server.

VMware recommends a fresh install

vCSA

Just one more quick note. If you are using or going to use vSphere 5.5, you may want to consider using the vCenter Server Virtual Appliance, which - as of version 5.5 - supports up to 100 hosts and 3000 VMs.

The VMware vCenter Server Appliance can be deployed only on hosts that are running ESX version 4.x or ESXi version 4.x or later.
